26 Spline end play question

I am attempting to install my new RXT and 26 spline input shaft. I am a little confused on the end play when I installed with the stock shim it was very tight and was not getting any in and out motion. I shimmed it down to .027 thinking that would give me my .005 tolerance. Im still not getting any in and out motion but I am getting a huge lateral movement (up and down / side to side) that I was not getting with the stock shim. :shrug:
