This is it, I am converting to a 31 spline half shaft. I got a 04 half shaft and 31 spline differential for a decent price. Would I need any thing else to do this swap?

Negative. You shouldn't need anything else.

I assume this differential already has the bearings and shit on it? If not, you will need carrier bearings and would bet you are going to need a shim kit.

Or is this a comple 8.8 housing and differential? If it is installed in the housing and you are just doing a housing swap, then all you need are axles and the housing, and gear fluid.

if you just bought a used 31 spline diff off ebay that did not come from an IRS car then you will need the grooves machined in the sides of it to hold the circlips for the halfshafts. if you dont the halfshafts will slide in and out freely of the diff. a solid axle diff is designed to use C-clips to hold the axles in. the IRS halfshaft uses a circlip that pops into place when installed. good luck.
