Well we had SO much fun last year that we're already planning the 2nd Annual Mustang/Ford Roundup! We have invited the Ford executives back again to make this even bigger and better next year! I've been working with George Anderson, President of Motorsports Park Hastings on the schedule, and we're expanding it to three days! We'll kick things off with a track school and open track time Friday afternoon for those that want to start early, or for those new to tracking their car. We'll have a welcome reception and car show Friday night to get things going, and the full slate of competition Saturday and Sunday including car show, autocross, drag racing and road racing. We're also going to expand into classes this year.

Here is the schedule September 21-23, 2012!

21st 1PM Mustang Driving School until 4PM & Test/Tune on the road course
21st 6PM Super Screen Theater Reception - Mustang/Ford
22nd Mustang/Ford Auto Cross AM Trophies Sat Night
21/22nd 2nd Annual Ford Car Show - Trophies Sat Night
22nd 2nd Annual Mustang/Ford Roundup Road Course 1PM-5PM
22nd Mustang/Ford BBQ in Clubhouse from 5PM-8PM
22nd Mustang/Ford Night Drag Racing 6PM-7PM & Trophies
23rd Who's The BOSS of the Mustang's Time Road Racing - 9AM-2:30PM
Top Ford - Overall Winner & Wrangler awards 3PM

MPH is located in Hastings, NE and opened in 2006. The facility is one of the finest I've seen anywhere. Named by Forbes.com in 2009 as one of the 10 Best places to Speed Legally in America. In Depth: Best Places To Speed Legally - Guardrail Club, Motorsports Park Hastings - Forbes.com They really know how to host an event and make it an experience you'll never forget. The track is a challenging 2.15 mile road course and the surface is impeccable. They do an outstanding job of maintaining the track and the entire facility which makes for a truly great experience. Here's an update from George. It looks like there will be at least a couple 302Ss coming and possibly more.

"We also have a 302S coming in from Texas as of yesterday.
Call from Doug D in Brazil (Via Iowa) today too.
.......looking Good!

Questions about Friday?
The event will unofficially take off at 1PM Friday for all of those who sent their entry by June 1st. Those early entrants will get two hours of Track time to get warmed up a bit.
Some of you are now getting organized for the event and I sure want to make it a great time for everyone. So MPH (Making People Happy) will now also allow other "Qualified" entrants some time on the Track Friday between 3 and 4PM for $25.
Our Friends from Woodhouse Ford (Thanks Bill P) are sponsoring Friday at the Track and Friday evening at the IMAX SuperScreen & Museum. Great food and a cash bar right inside the Museum. Todd Soderquist, from Ford Motor Company, will be back again with some great stuff about the history of the LS and more breaking news I'm sure. (Including his 2013 #22 Boss 302LS). This will be a great place to show your cars and talk with other owners and drivers.

More on Tires and keeping people in groups with like times to follow. We're not perfect but will give it a shot to make things more fair. Racers just love a fair fight as long as they have the edge.

Thanks to Bill P and Gary G for all the help and support...more to follow on Saturday's sponsors and special activities.....
The AutoCross is a High Speed full 2.15 Miles long...and you can't get a cone...nope not even one! A real challenge!

George"

Oh yes..I have signed up for the event. It should be great fun. I will be bringing my 2012 Boss302S. Hope to see a lot of my open track friends.

I am attaching a pic of the car taken during the demo race at the Ford Shelby MidAmerica event at Hallet a couple months ago.

Outstanding Joe! George told me you were coming and I'm looking forward to meeting you and seeing an S. A lot of people give me grief that I should have just started there to begin with :D

Get your buddies signed up soon. We're going to add classes this year but we need to get a firmer handle on car count so we know how many we can create.

Dean,

It will be great to see you again and have a chance to chase you on track. I think Wayne Manor will be coming with me. We plan on sharing the car for the weekend. I am sure looking forward to running on a new track. I was counting up the various tracks I have ran on the past 10 years. It totals 18 different road courses. I think my favorite is Barber with VIR and Road America coming in a close second. I still have Mid Ohio and Watkins Glen on my bucket list.

Dean, glad you're making it again this year. Hope you have a great time at RA this weekend. We decided to stick with BIR this weekend since the Roundup falls on the only other weekend we'd get there this summer. We made it to RA twice this year already.

Here are a couple more cars that will be at the Mustang Roundup. Sounds like a father/son team but the big question is who gets to drive the new one ;-)

I also checked on race gas for anyone that needs it (302S guys for sure). He'll have the following:

GT260 Sonoco 100 unleaded and renegade 102 unleaded. The GT260 has ethanol and renegade does not and for this event both will be $10 per gallon.

***news release***

I have some really exciting news to share about The Mustang Roundup! Those of you that were able to make it last year know Todd was the Mustang Planner and a key player at Ford in bringing back the Boss. Todd is currently the CD4 Platform Program Manager at Ford and owner of #LS022 for both the 2012 Black/Red Laguna Seca and 2013 SBY Laguna Seca. He and his father Doug will be piloting both cars in competition at the Roundup. I received the following email from Todd about several "special guests" that have confirmed for this year's event:

"Starting to get official confirmations from the Ford team on attendance.

I’m really excited about this one:

• Chuck Drake was Boss 302 vehicle engineering team leader and an expert on Boss 302 development, details, and decisions.
o Chuck and his father have a pair of 2012 and 2013 Boss 302s plus a collection of classic Mustangs and a continuation Cobra. Chuck’s father will be joining him for the weekend and I’m hoping they are able to bring a pair of cars out.
o Note: Two father and Ford employee son Boss teams!

Also confirmed:

• Bart Marowelli is a New Model Programs Launch Specialist that will be able to tell Gary anything he wants to know about his F-150 pull truck. We are debating about letting him drive a new Focus ST on the track with all these high horsepower cars or making him drive my Daily Driver Race Red 2013 5.0L Track Pack so I can have all 3 of my Mustangs onsite for the weekend.
• Jim Dunham is a Technical Specialist in Vehicle Architecture. He has helped set up the Mustang and Ford GT vehicles. He has also restored the original Lemans winning Ford GT for the Henry Ford Museum. Built 1 modern Ford GT from a salvage and is currently building another Ford GT from spare parts. (pic attached) I’m not yet sure what Jim is bringing. His 13MY Mustang GT, a Ford GT or just coming to hang out and talk with us.

CD4 Platform Program Manager"

Hastings a fun track, the big sweeper is fun, as they say don't break mid turn, you'll go off into the grass. Last time I was there, my car (Nemesis) engine blew up. Bye Bye racing.

Definitely don't brake there.....but if you do go off you won't be in the grass, you'll be mowing alfalfa especially with the LS splitter :D
