I know there are already a number of threads discussing the pros and cons of a 351 vs a stroked 302, but I haven’t seen weight mentioned in any of them. How much heavier is a 351W than a 302? Anyone who has done a sn95 351 swap, did the handling noticeably change? I'm assuming, even with the weight gain, that a 351 equipped sn95 can still handle very well since it was the combination used for the '95 Cobra R. Is there a difference between the block used in the '95 Cobra R and the 351 blocks of other mid-90's ford lightning’s, other F150's, etc?

I am also curious about this. Anyone have any experience with this, or know the blocks' differences?

351 means you have to get a cowl hood.

Adding 90lbs to the front isn't always a good thing either.

Go for the 331. The rod and piston angles end up much better than a 347, plus your not boring the thing out to paper thin walls...

i believe the deck height is different

+1. Other than that, they are identical, besides the obvious differences that a difference in displacement creates (rods, pistons, crank, etc).

:nonono: the 306,331,347 are all .030 overbores.
306 stock stroke X stock rod length X 4.030bore
331 3.250 stroke X 5.4 rod X 4.030bore
347 3.400 stroke X 5.4 rod X 4.030bore

347>331, since they fixed the ring landing issue with the stroke. the 347 is much, much more reliable these days due to r&D.

thread starter, go to corral.net do a little searching and reading, you'll find what youre looking for much easier. your going to have to swap a bunch of stuff from headers to the hood b/c the 351 is 9.5 deck height vs the 302's 8.2 deck height. dollar for dollar you will come out better with a 347, vs a 351 + parts you need to make it work......unless youre gonna stroke the 351, then all bets are off. none of your 302 bolt ons will work on a 351 either, and the ones that do work will only hurt you performance wise. good luck

the 95 R and the saleen S351's all used stock Lightning shortblocks.
Which were used in marine applications.

The Ford GT uses the block from a Ford truck. ;-)
