How can 315 nitto's fit on a 17x9 stock rim??? the specifications for them say 315's need 10-12" wide rims.

From the "Cobra FAQ:"
3.17. What size wheels and tires will fit in the rear without rubbing/scraping?
In general, it appears that up to 11” wheels (which will support a 315/35 tire without problems) will fit the rear, as long as the offset is modified. The primary area of concern is an IRS bolt that is only about 1.5” from the stock wheel/tire. Any custom wheel will need to keep this clearance. In addition, without suspension modifications, adding wider wheels may not improve grip. However, most have had good results from 315/35 Nitto tires on the stock rim. They appear to fit without issue, and provide a large improvement in traction. Be aware, however, that the Nitto tires appear to be unique in this aspect. Other brands do not appear to fit properly at the 315 size on the stock rim.

Forget the specs, heres pictures to proove it
fubu, did you do anything special or just strap the tires on and go?
Those pictures say it all. It's well-known that Nitto 315s tend to run small compared to other "street tire" 315s. A Nitto 315 is about as big as most 285-295 street tires.
For example...compare the section widths of these 3 tires mounted on 10.5" wheels:
Nitto Drag Radial 315......11.75"
Dunlop Sport 8000 315....12.25"
Goodyear GS-D3 315.......12.75"
These aren't published "specs", these are actual measurements. As you can see, Nittos aren't nearly as big as other 315s.

Actually everyone I have called is out of stock until Mid June. I went with BFG 275/40/17 and will get the nitto's when I burn the BFG's up. But I did use discount tire and got a price of $158 with shipping.
