So if you run 2.73 gears in a stock ratio 6R80, you'll have similar ratios as the modified 6R80 transformed into the 4R200 running 4.10 gears. It just seems sooo much easier simply running 2.73's than modifying, (and paying for) the 4R200 which will almost mandate a gear change if you're currently running a 6R80 also / anyways.

Just trying to figure out the "WHY" on the 4R200 is all. Here's some quick hard numbers to consider. Both transmissions on 7000rpm input shaft speed, and a 28" tall tire

6R80 / 2.73 rear gears, 7000 engine rpm 28" tire
1st - 51mph
2nd - 91mph
3rd - 136mph

4R200 / 4.10 rear gears, 7000engine rpm 28" tire
1st - 52mph
2nd - 92mph
3rd - 142mph

I put this thread in the (power adders) section because these people are probably the only ones who'd benefit or consider the usage of the 4R200

4r200 hub gets rid of 1-3 gears the planet gears usually explode. Regearing a 6r80 with that 2.73 and big power will only put more stress on those planet gears. Its not so much about gearing as it is a way around making a exspensive new planetary gear set.

At what point-ish, does the 6R80 start having problems whp-wise?

At 1200 rwhp you start having the planetaries explode. A couple years ago a local guy running a twin turbo setup exploded his 6R with 1300+, I was there when it let go and it split the case in half, busted transmission internals went all over the track.

A couple news articles on high powered 6R's.

Well, I don't plan on ever making power to that extent, lol!
