It is impossible no mater how you turn the cam there just is not enough room.

I'm pretty sure the cams have to come out, but you can get the roller fingers in and out with the cams in place.

IMO you have to pull out the cams, I just can't see how you would get them into and out of place with the cams in there. Like Sid said though you can get the followers out with the cams in place but not the lifters.

I know With 4.6 4v you can replace the lifters with out taking the camshafts out

Yes I tried and no you can't do it, like I said its impossible.
