Depends

If you are NA then it is beneficial to a point, depending on if you want to be able to run on pump gas or not. But with forced induction you don't want a lot of compression because you would have to run a very high octane gas for one and you risk very serious damage to your engine if one little thing goes wrong. It stresses the internals almost exponentially if you run higher compression with forced induction.

~ever~,
The supercharger (or turbo, for that matter), in effect, increases the compression ratio of the cylinder by forcing more air/fuel mixture into the cylinder than would normally be drawn in under naturally aspirated conditions. As Booyah explained, this can be a very bad thing for a high compression engine... Most blown/turboed motors, from the factory, begin with a much lower compression ratio than their N/A bretheren. This is why tuning an aftermarket-forced induction motor (with a N/A compression ratio from the factory) is critical in the longevity of the motor...
