So I was browsing the Ford Racing catalog yesterday and noticed that they now have the 5.8 block available. How viable would this be for a new edge engine build?

The 4.6 intake will not fit without adapters. The exhaust needs to be modified slightly. And you need a 5.4 timing cover. Everything else is just like a 4.6 that's bigger. You'll need k member spacers to clear the stock hood.

Gt500/cobra r/gt heads won't work with a stock intake with adapters. Or a Aussie intake. I would guess the ports are raised (might be wrong). You you need to modify the intake for it to work. Idk what is involved though.
Any other c-head will work with no modification.

This engine will require GT or Navi heads and the only intakes that will work is the Cobra R (GT heads) and the Sullivan for the Navi heads.

The ports of the cobra/mach intake are too small...way too small.
