The close tolerances and the high temps generated I would say.

I read a post once about someone claiming a big time MOD guy saying it has something to do with the oem cam specs/lifters the 00R/05GT and now Gt500 head uses, with aftermarket sticks the need for this oil goes away....The 00R's ran something similar and I'll bet the FGT's run the same ...

'00R's were spec'd 15w50 full synthetic.

Like Ron said, mainly the lifters. With a lower weight oil you won't get full lift out of the stock sticks.
