Is there any reason one couldnt use a 8.8 31 spline diff out of a ford truck or suv to put in a cobra? The reason I ask is I need to change my rear gears and was planning on upgrading the entire rear later anyway so I figure this could be a cheap option to get the ball rolling. These diffs can be picked up super cheap and then all I should need is a set of 31 spline axles. Ive seen these diffs with gears go for the price of just replacing the gears and I may even be able to score one off my buddy for free.

Yes that is very do-able.

They are the ones that come standard on the 03-04 Cobras.

Ford Part # is 2L2Z-4026-AA or the FRPP part # is M-4204-F318

You can find brand new take-off's with less than 5 miles on them for under $130

Specs:

●31 spline
●Fits all 8.8" differentials
●Original equipment on 2003-2004 Cobra
●Features plate-type clutches
●Will accept anti-lock exciter ring
●Has carbon fiber clutch plates for increased durability
●Requires 4-ounces of CM-19546-A1 friction modifier with initial fill

Ok, now im assuming I will need aftermarket 31 spline axles that will fit our specific year 94-98 mustangs or will something else work too?

so the next question is, will the axles out of a truck or explorer work? as well as agree with the abs?

I don't think they will. Only because the Ranger axles (and Aerostar) fit the Foxes, and the SN-95's have different length axles. Plus, you have to worry about pressing on the ABS rings.

Spend the $250 and get Mosers, WELL worth it!

By the way, this is the same 31 spline setup I run on my car. Works like a charm, and the rear is re-buildable!

Yeah, the FRPP and the truck diff's are about the same, and like I said, the cool thing about them is you can rebuild them!

I put mine in with the axles in October, gave it a few hundred break in miles, and let it rip at the local All Ford event with 275/40 BFG DR's. Running high 1.7 60's with no problem! :burnout:
