8 inch open air filter/ a/f mixture

i purchased a 8 in air filter and the adapter to fit where the stock filter and housing are located. my question is if i use the large filter will my engine run dangerously lean? has any one installed this type of filter and what were the results.

A 9" filter left me running rich. So I went with a 12" filter. Still running rich.
