Does anyone have, or know of someone that has, a
'93 Cobra R that is supercharged? I hear that
Steeda had a 93R that was raced with a supercharger.
I know Vortech has a 5 psi unit for about $1600,
doubt I'd want to put much more boost on a stock
engine. In addition, I do not want to make any
modifications to the car that can't be undone.
Plus I would like to know if installation is more
involved on an R compared to a regular 5.0.

I just bought the 93R (#66) last week with 389 miles
on her. I gave $26k for it, which I don't think is
too bad of a deal. Car is in mint condition,
completely stock, and a ton of documentation was
included.

My plans for the car will be mostly shows and an
occasional weekend drive...and possibly one or two
1/4 mile runs.

Any feedback will be appreciated.

Congratulations on the great purchase!

I don't know much about the 93R's, aren't the engines pretty much stock? I would imagine the SC install would be similar.

Any pics to share?

Yes, the 93 Cobra R engine is the same as in
the 93 Cobra. Although the driven accessories
are somewhat different (considering the R has a
different configuration around where the A/C
condenser and power steering pump are in the
regular Cobras).

As far as I can tell, the only belt driven
accessories that are to be moved for making room
for the Vortech are the alternator and smog pump.
I'm not very familiar with the engine layout of
the regular Cobra, so all I can do is compare my
R engine layout with engine pictures that I can
find of the regular Cobras. It looks like both
the alternator and smog pump are located in the
same location on both engines, thus installation
should be the same.

Perhaps I will call Steeda and/or Vortech for a
solution. I'm sure I will need a long list of
replacement parts since I do not intend on
modifing any R-factory parts.

To modify or not modify??? That is the question! :^|
I will get pics posted as soon as possible...

if you want it so that you can get it completely back original, look into the ATI procharger, P1SC. self contained, no need to tap the oil pan. also, with the included intercooler, MO POWER! not sure how much they run, tho there is a guy in m'boro who does mostly prochargers that can hook you up. good bunch of guys too.
and no, nothing really special needs to be done to get the blower in. (although you may have to move the battery on the ATI kit, don't remember exactly)

where ya at in nashville?

There is a guy I know that sometime comes on here who has a 93 R that has a 5.8 with an S/C. His S/C is a Kenne Bell whipple type. I cannot remember his User name on this board.. He goes by Rappid Runner on SCOA.org.

The 93 R motor is basically the same as the 93 Cobra with a little difference on the internals.

There is also a guy from Minnesota that has/had a 93R that he put a Kenne Bell Whipplecharger on and did alot of open track events with.

As far as what kit to use that's up to you but the 93R could use any supercharger kit out there with no problems.

Steeda's car wasn't supercharger as it ran in the Firehawk series which the engines have to be factory (they just allowed balancing and blueprinting)

You must be talking about Delk's. I had them do a ton of work on
the '97 Cobra convertible I use to have. I may give Brent and
Heath a call to get their ideas. I really was tring to make a
sleeper out of her...word would get out if I have them do the
work.

I'm south of Nashville (Spring Hill).

yeah, i was talking about delk. ATI wouldn't help in the sleeper dept. at all. that whistle would give it away...LOL both brent and heath are good guys, my 91 spent most of last year with them, felt like part of the family after all that time, sheesh.

you ever get up to cool springs on sat nights for the cruise in? i'm usually out there, be nice to check the R out.

I'm going to try to make it back out to cool springs this Saturday.
I was up there last weekend with it. Unfortunately, when I left
out I hit a pretty good second gear...hit 3rd and the throttle
stuck wide-open...I pushed the clutch in and she started hitting
the rev-limiter. By this time I'm doing 60+mph on the outer ring
of the mall, and I'm just along for the ride. I pull her into 4th
and get on the brakes trying to bog the motor, but she's still
pulling pretty hard. I'm at the point of killing the ignition
when I realize the floormat was on top of the gas pedal! So I'm
on the brakes, trying to get the floormat off the pedal and when
I do manage to pull it off the pedal and start slowing down, a
couple of Franklin PD officers where sitting in the mall parking
lot...and clocked me at 46 in a 20. They pulled me over and asked
why I was speeding. I told the officers that I realize this is
going to be a pretty lame reason, but... After I told him, he said,
"license and registration" and he wrote me the ticket. I ought to
let him borrow my floormats for a day and see how he likes them!

Anyway...if I'm out there I'll probably have it on a trailer.
I forgot to mention that I had the tags off my truck on the Cobra
when I got pulled over...they found no appreciation about that
either. I had trailered the car nearby and pulled the tag off the
truck to drive it to the show. It just wasn't my day. Look me
up if you're out there.

i talked to 10secL from this board tonight and i'll probably be out there this weekend.

sux about the cops, but that's franklin PD. buncha "gotta luv my badge" peckers. i run a security company in nashville, we tried to get a couple of contracts out in the franklin cool springs area, franklin PD had off duty officers working what we were bidding and told the property owners that if they took PD officers off that site, response time might "slow down quite a bit". dicks......

I am back, I have a blown 93 R! As JKCOBRA98 mentioned I run A Kenne Bell. I have been away from this site for long time, was stuck in Europe after attacks when I was on Holiday and came home and pulled my motor and trans and sold $14,000 worth of junk on ebay to fund my new motor!!!! I am now using a all forged low comp 331 instead of the 351W. Still missing a few parts ie TKO. R's are no big deal with Kenne Bell, I have used the 1.5 and 2.2 blowers. R's also come with convertable mounts which most people don't know. I am just one of the few people that has had it apart, I try and take pics of all numbers for future reference. The motor sits a little lower and give you room. In the other 93 "plain" Cobra that I had, the hood felt was notched to accomodate the the blower. If you need any help just let me know, I had to shim a littel but no big deal. Remember Cobra under drive pulley need to go, at least on the crank. The R's have all three underdrives while normal Cobra has just two. If you drive on the street it is a great blower. If your going to track get a ATI or a Vortech. :rolling: ASK away if you need help
