I've searched the web for hours and have not found any info on this
specific situation. I removed the cd player to install two Autometer
gauges in it's place. Should have the gauges today and I've already
made the panel to mount them. I turned the radio on yesterday while
I was out and NO SOUND. I wasn't expecting that. Before I start
spending money I don't have for an aftermarket head unit, harnesses
and integrators I don't need, or start hacking up the factory wiring,
does anyone know if there is a simple solution to make just the
radio/tape deck work, or did I just shoot myself in the foot again? :(

Thanks, Rich.

Id just double check you didnt unplug anything... you can remove the CD player and still use the radio.

Thanks Mark, this is exactly what I was looking for, you saved me a boatload of time. What would you recommend if I ever did want to go with an aftermarket Head Unit?

I am the wrong guy to ask about head units. I like the stock unit. My old ears can't hear all that well anymore, and if you add Flowmasters and twin screw blower whine, 255LPH fuel pump whine, etc, I can't hear s**t when the car is running anyway.

I like the stock look. I embedded my wideband inside the dead CD deck so I have a stealth wideband gauge: http://www.classictiger.com/mustang/Interior/PLXm300inCDdeck/WBembed.htm

Your delete lets you put more than one guage there, though. I like that idea, too.
