Gonna be dropping the tank soon to clean it in my 97 GT 4.6 w/ return fuel system. I want to put a 255lph fuel pump kit in it. Do I have to install a fuel pressure regulator like a Kirban or will the stock fuel pressure regulator work fine?

Unless you want the fuel pressure to be at a different setting than stock the oem regulator will be just fine.

It doesnt work that way. No matter which regulator you use, your engine is only going to use so much. The same amount will always be returning to the tank.

At least on OEM returnless systems the ECU varies voltage to the pump to control the flow rate. I would think it's the same with OEM return style. FWIW I have a return system with twin 255lph pumps running full time at 100% and fuel aeration has not been an issue.

Return systems don't change pump speed. They operate full blast 100% of the time and the regulator sets the pressure in the rails. Whatever isnt needed by the engine or to set the pressure goes back to the tank. Fuel systems in fuel injected cars worked that way for many years. It's a much less complicated system.

Returnless systems varry pump speed to control system pressure since there is no pressure regulator.

The only issue there ever really was with return systems was fuel heating, not aeration. Remember the returned fuel gets dumped into the top of the tank. Any air bubbles possibly created float up instantly.

is there a point where a -6 return line is just to small? my goal is to put on a 255lph or a 340lph fuel pump, a FPR, 24lb injectors.
