Advise for a detailing newb

So I want to bring some life back to my paint, its the original 12yr old paint. The car still shines and has a decent reflection in it but it is dirty and has a gritty feel to it. I have removed the cheesy fake Saleen stripes and to my urprise the paint under them is in real good shape. So what im looking for is some suggestions on products. I dont want to spend alot and im doing it by hand. What can I get at the local autozone to help me as far as wax and polish goes. I know im not gonna get a show room shine from 12yr old blackpaint that has not been protected, just want it to look decent.

start with a good clay bar. then some paint cleaner, polish and a good wax. i use the meguiars 3 step bottle things... makes my lightning look real good. i like to use scratch X instead of paint cleaner tho
