Almost nailed a deer

Coming home from work tonight in the fog and drizzle, I was starting to get a little tired. Very few other cars were out on the interstate. Before I could even react a large doe ran right up to the shoulder about 10 car lengths in front of me, and immediately turned around and ran back. If she would have crossed I would have had NO time to do anything. I was damn lucky tonight.

Maybe it was my loud exhaust that scared it?:shrug:

It's kind of scary how fast something like that can happen...

I'm still wondering if those deer whistles really work. People tell me they don't, but I can't see the harm in spending a couple of bucks in case they do.

I think the loud exhaust probably does as much as the deer whistles would.

I feel your pain. I nailed a 10 point buck off of I-88 about 5 years back (outside of Coal Valley / Rock Island) and all I remember seeing before hand was a flash of brown fur and antlers. They are FAST!!!

When they say nothing runs like a deer, they mean it!

a friend on mine had one run into the side of her camaro and push it off the road with her driving 50mph. It wa a very large buck and its antlers pierced her door and wrapped around the back of her car and broken her driver taillight. She also ended up with a cracked hatch.

I hit a deer almost every night. I always see them coming home. I had seen about 7 in the field beside our house before I pulled in last night. 3 of them ran across the road in front of me. One is always running in front of me nearly every night right before I hit the curve to my house. We have a lot of field and woods, it’s loaded.

Muzzle loader opens Saturday, time to thin those bastards out.
