Alternator help field voltage wire?

I have a 04 Mach which I believe came stock with the same alt that was on 01 Cobra and different fro 03 Cobra? It uses two wires yo the alt. The green/red one comes from the factory dash the yellow is 12v. The lt green I have going to 12v junction box. The issue I have is I do not have a stock dash in the car and run an aftermarket display dash. The factory shows the green/ red wire going to the idiot light in the dash. My question is I know some of the alt use less voltage in this wire than 12v and it requires an inline resistor to work. Does anyone know what voltage I need to apply to the green/ red wore to get the alt to work? Thx

Wow!! Ok, well not sure what aftermarket dash you have but "idiot Light?" Less than 12 volts with a resistor and less voltage to get the alternator to work? --- . Need more info.
