I know it seems like the AN sizing would make these things standard, but it doesn't.

Does anybody have any references to braided hose and fitting/hose end specs?

What I'm after (for -6, -8 and -10) is the ID for a give AN size for different brands of SS braided hose, the ID of the hose ends for each AN size from the different manufacturers and, if at all possible, specs for ID on the adapter fittings.

Also, what other brands are out there? So far I'm aware of:

Aeroquip (actually Eaton)
Earl's (owned by Holley)
Russel
Summit (probably someone else's, just relabled)
Jeg's (same comment as Summit)
Goodrich (mostly brakes - I think)

Any horror stories I should know of with a particular brand?

Thanks,
Herb

AN should be standard across the board. Figure the # AN fitting as a fraction out of 16. So a #4 AN is 4/16 (1/4) or a #10 is 10/16" (5/8").

Thanks guys. I understand how the AN sizing works, and have been using it for years under the same X=Y=Z assumption. I read something in Earl's doc's that got me looking and started to research it further. There is, apparently, not much standard about the standard.

What I'm finding in my research is that that size is 'nominal' and different brands of hose have different ID dimensions for a given size - even different offerings from the same manufacturer. I have found some good online resources for Earl's, Russel and Aeroquip for the hose, but I havent found any data on the fittings and adapters. Aeroquip does have a chart of nominal through hole sizes, but it doesn't give much conidence in its reliability across the line.

As an example, Aeroquip AQP Racing Hose -08 (1/2 inch or 0.500") has an ID of 0.44", however the AQP Socketless Hose -08 has and ID of 0.50". The -08 fittings for Aeroquip have a listed 'nominal' through-hole dimension of 0.39".

Here's three good sites I've found so far...
Aeroquip - http://hydraulics.eaton.com/product...PPE-MC001-E.pdf
Russel - http://www.russellperformance.com/a...hose_ends.shtml
Earl's - http://essexparts.com/CatalogPDF/Es...tings-Hoses.pdf

I'm woking on a spreadsheet for personal use that compiles all this info. I'd be glad to share it once complete.

Another issue I have seen repeatedly in my research is that, lor long fuel line runs, the Earl's line seems to have fuel vapors leach out causing a smell like a constant fuel leak.

Thanks,
Herb
