Yeah and it suppresses a protein forget which one that the white blood cells home in on, is what it does for me. And so protects my kidneys from the assaults. Pump has been a life changer and saver for me from 1998 to 2010 I have been in the emergency room or hospital over 65 times!!! Yes this is why brittle diabetics are just so unbalanced and your quality of life is just not there.

I'll take bets that I have the highest and lowest blood sugar here on this site against any other diabetic. I have had 1250 to a 15 and everything in between. And still vertical as my doctor likes to put it.

Holy shit. That’s nuts!

For all you guys that are pre diabetic and over weight, the best thing you can learn is the glycemic index of foods and drinks.

The Zone by Barry Sears is excellent.

I think this is the original book. It’s not some fad diet or anything. It teaches you how different foods affect your entire body and most importantly, your blood sugar and associated insulin response.

The Enter the Zone is the one.

The Lisinopril had me thrown off too. They have me on that (10mg) along with Metoprolol to help with the A-Fib I got from the pneumonia I had back in 10/2022.

Lisiniprol is a BP med no? Off label use I’m guessing

Good friends daughter developed type 1 recently. I didn’t know that was possible. Thought you were born with it or not but I guess puberty can cause it.

She’s on a pump and monitor so no finger pricks anymore. Parents can see her BGL on their phones and get alerts if she’s low or high.

My two kids both developed T1d at 4 years old. They are 8 and 12 now and doing great. It completely changed our lives and how we view food.

Another kick in the shorts about me that I forgot. That is I can give myself like 50 units of insulin and I only get around 20 due again to my white blood cells taking and destroying the rest this is why I got to jack intake way up to even hope of getting anything that would pass off as a normal dose, and another reason for the wide swings I get.

Autoimmune for the loss.

Autoimmune disorders are brutal. Metabolic too. Very disabling.

Good chance I'll get flamed for this but honestly IDGAF.

Take the special diet your doctor prescribed to you and toss it because it's trash. If it came from the American Diabetes Association burn it.

I've been down this road being told I was pre-diabetic in my early 30s. I followed the diet almost to a T. I say almost because I would cheat when we went out to eat, usually once a weekend but still wasn't out of control.

3-4 months later almost NOTHING got better except my Triglycerides. I set up an appointment with a certified dietician and went over what I was eating and how I was adhering to the diet.

What did I get from her? A bunch of shitty paperwork and meal plans from the ADA again. I was also told "well you're doing everything right this is just how it goes for some people".

I'll be honest, I was lost and by lost I mean I basically kept doing what I was doing for about 5 more years. Not getting worse but not making any significant improvements either.

In that time I started a new job and 2 year into it I noticed climbing a flight of stairs was kind of difficult.

I started looking hard for a solution and I mean a real solution. I decided to start working out again as well.

I found fasting and keto. In just under a year I dropped 25lbs and things started to look up. My blood work wasn't perfect but an F ton better. Over the next year I lost another 10.

For the next 2-3 years I stayed around 190-195 depending on the time of the year but was cheating a lot on the weekends. Ice cream, whiskey, processed carbs, tacos you name it. During camping I was really bad.

I got back on track right before the holidays then off again. I took a blood test right before Thanksgiving.

Total cholesterol a tick over 200 and Triglycerides of just 66. No AIC or glucose though.

I got up to 200lbs when I stepped onto the scale Jan 8th. **** this I told myself.

Started carnivore and literally just hit 90 days TODAY.

I am down 15 lbs to 185. I haven't weighed this much since I was in my late 20s.

I have noticed other benefits to carnivore besides weight loss.

I am going to do another 90 days and have a full blood panel done to see where I am. I'll make sure to have my A1C checked this time.

I am not going to advocate for carnivore because I don't think it's for everybody.

I will however advocate for fasting and keto. It made pretty big improvement on my life and physical condition.

Fasting is hard initially, it takes determination and discipline. And I mean real ****ing determination and discipline because your first few 24 hour fasts are rough.

The keto meals are important to cut out the crap in your diet and take a little getting used to.

If you decide to try it do it on a weekend when you have nothing going on, no obligations, nowhere to be, nothing.

The answer isn't at the doctor's office.

Lisiniporol here too (whatever it's called)

Funny thing is when I lived with my vegan x 10 years ago I was 185lbs, ride my bike 20 miles almost every day...and my BO went sky high and I had to be out on meds (it was 200)

On meds it's in the 120-130, resting heart rate is 90's, I don't drink or party much any more, closer to 220 now, was lifting eights for the last ten years but I've quit because of my back, trying to get back into it again.

Still alive for now!

Keto is no/low carb which of course will reduce glycogen, insulin response, and the associated problems.

Not sure what the doc or whatever told you, but the key is keeping your blood sugar in check.

Either genetics or years and years of a high sugar diet make it so your body can’t control it and you get diagnosed with diabetes.

On point IMHO! The bullshit food pyramid is why we have seen an exponential increase in obesity, type 2 diabetes and other metabolic disorders the past few decades. Not to mention the bullshit food like substances that passes for food these days. Regardless of what diet you are on, if you need a chemistry degree to understand the ingredients, then don’t ****ing eat it…

Yes I am aware of how/why it works.

During those first doctor visits as well as the one with the dietician nothing like that was said though. I had to figure it out myself years later working nights watching YouTube.

What pisses me off is doctors won't tell you to eat that way. They just repeat what they're told. In my case it was the ADA trash.

So much of our medical system and nutrition education is trash.

Lol I told a doc last fall (not my GP) I was on TRT and he started to give me his opinion… I cut him off and said look doc, I don’t need your ****ing opinion or approval. I don’t think he was used to being shut down like that, to his credit he didn’t mention it again.

I mean honestly my doc always hit me up about sugar and more importantly white carbs. I didn't do much about it as he was always talking A1C. I have rarely had any health problems, so never looked into anything much. One day he started saying diabetes instead of A1C and I shit my pants. Cut out 90% of the carbs for a couple months, weight fell off and things were getting back to good. Sugar and carbs are killers and the addiction to them is damn near as bad as nicotine.

The buddy that's type is married to someone that is type 1 and has been all her life. She's had 2 pancreas transplants since we've known them. The thing was even though she knew the drill, they still didn't take great care of themselves. I honestly think seeing my wife and I getting into better shape has helped motivate them. As well as turning 50 this year.

I worked with a nutrionist a couple years ago to help me get things figured out. I remember I did a panel and things looked really good. My doctor was impressed and mentioned I should keep up not eating diary and eggs. I told responded at the time I was eating around 4 eggs a day. Just goes so show they don't know as much as they claim.

Keto is very hard to maintain for most people and they usually break and go back to their normal routine. Low carb ( meat and veggies, not bread etc.) with intermittent fasting works very well for me. Our meals usually range from 20-60 carbs for about 8 years now.
