Any tricks for changing a KB blower pulley?

I'm swapping pulleys on my 2.6KB. I'm simply going from a 3" pulley to a 3.5" pulley. I have the new pulley and the KB tool to remove it but confused over the instructions that came from KB. Can't I simply remove the old pulley and pop on the new one without touching the mating surfaces? The instructions show pulling out the rubber seal ring(off the driveshaft) and cleaning both ends and oiling the outside. I'm curious if I really have to do this or if this is just legal mumbo-jumbo??

Nevermind, I thought you were having problems with something else.

I just swap the pulleys: thats all.

That is the logic I'm using. I am going to just swap them and not touch anything else....

For anyone swapping a pulley on a KB, get a breaker bar... I finally go it off.
