So I’ve been trying to get some more clarity on whipples EO for the 03-04 cars. As some here may know the CARB EO number for the whipples are for the blowers only. I asked for more clarity on this from whipple as I am considering using a whipple to replace the stock blower. Whipples responses below as regards to the EO.

Now I wanted to make sure and asked them if the factory tune is safe for what the EO calls for pulley wise. I sent them an email asking them if the tune is “safe” enough to run the 2.3 as the kit is EO’d; Which I’ve seen say 3.25 and 3.5. Can some one please tell me what are the boost levels of the 3.5? They have replied since then and wanted to run this by some here who have done tuning. I’d also like to see if anyone has actually ran the blower as a replacement only. I get it I get it, it will be boring but it may all be our problem soon.

Anyone that can chime in would be appreciated.

Whipple EO document I’ve seen around.

When the Whipple blower came out it was advertised as a stock replacement. Meaning just the blower at stock boost levels. While it is more efficient, it makes more power at stock boost. When you are running the stock boost, stock tune works.

This.

Unfortunately after contacting Whipple, the 2.9L also runs stock tune with a CARB #but doesn’t net any real gains at stock boost due to the increased power to spin it.

I believe KB is in a similar scenario with a CARB # on the stock setup only. Unfortunately neither blower allows for an injector swap without removing the blower and lower manifold each time...

Why does the blower need to be removed on both kits?

Is it the inlet that prevents you from pulling the injector rail on that side?

If so I thought the inlets were removable on both blowers?

What am I missing?

I was just unsure the factory tune would be safe at the 13 psi the 3.5 pulley makes.
Others sites also say it is safe to run on the factory calibration. I’d love to hear experiences with this from someone here who has just slapped it on and went.
I’m sure adding a CAI may cause the tune to get more lean?
Then again JLT’s all have carb numbers now for our cars.

Just wanted to get a “no fun” parts list together for us here in CA.

I guess you haven't seen all the VMP posts bragging about their removable inlet. The Whipple and KB are one piece.

Single piece inlet. No way passenger side rail is coming out.

The inlets are removable from the rear but will never happen with the blower in car..

Had anyone considered having the stock injectors upsized? I know you can do 80lbs max but this would allow you to revert to the stock tune (yes, with a dealer reflash) but without the need to change injectors/pull the blower.

That could be an option; deatsworks sells a factory replacement pump that’s E-85 compatible.
