I bought my car with one of those Viper alarm systems, and the remote was in questionable condition from the start. I'd really like to go back to stock, as my remote finally quit on me, and I've been having to lock and unlock the car via my key. Stopped into my local sound/accessory store, and they want almost $200 for a new remote and programming. 
I know next to nothing about aftermarket alarm systems. How much work would be involved going back to a stock setup? I know I can get a new key fob on eBay for cheap, and I've found writeups on how to program them. I just don't know how much of the stock stuff is left or if it doesn't get harmed at all when going aftermarket, let alone where it is.
