Don't qoute me on this because he doesn't have the car anymore...and I wasn't close friends with him....but I knew a kid who had a civic hatchback, and i think he said he had about 305hp @ the engine...and he ran a 12.4 or 5 i believe....he weighed in at like 26-2800lbs with him in it.
He might have been at 305whp though...so im not sure...sorry.

It's definitely possible. Think lotuses. Lightweight, small power, big times.
You're right:burnout:

I guess I should have been more specific: how about cars weighing more than 3000 lbs?

I posted a vid for you in the other thread. The saleen is over 3,000 pounds and has 270RWHP and does run mid 12's. What else are you looking for?

03 Saleen S281 N/A
Mods: CAI, Throttle Body, weight reduction, built rearend, 4:10 gears, no catback, Slicks and Skinnies.

For those that haven't seen it, your vid shows a Saleen going 12.78. You say it is N/A with 270 rwhp, and I have no reason to disbelieve you. Do you, by chance, know his race weight?

Here, I'm merely looking for examples of cars that would nullify my argument (in the other thread) that you'd need at least 340rwhp to propel a 3400# vehicle throught the quarter mile in 12.6...

260-280 rwhp with a shitload of torque could go mid 12's

modded tpi fbodys and vettes can put down 270ish whp but at the same time making 400lbft at the wheels. they are torquey cars. so they can cut amazing 60's and lead into a mid higher 12 second run at low mph like 105 or so.

its possible

just need the right setup and hella quick launch.. really good 60's

His race weight is 3350 and I seen him run the 12.6. We are good buddies and he lives about 3 miles from my house. We use to hit the track often but with the heat that we have this summer it is not fun to go to the track and run slower times. I was at his last dyno run and Could dig up the dyno sheet if need be.

Here is the numbers in his sig:
2003 Saleen NA S281
270rwhp/305rwtq
12.6@106 / 7.9@84

A new best 1/8th mile post from him last November

Well, it was cold but the track was hookin.
I got a new best 60ft and 1/8th time.
60ft.......1.6010
330ft.....5.0561
1/8th............7.9662
MPH.............84.75

I will get him to chime in tonight or tomorrow. He has to work until 8. He can fill you in on how to make a 270RWHP 2v with a race weight of 3300lbs run mid 12's.

Huh?

And where has there been any mention that a 2v n/a can't run low 12s. Hell, I've seen V6s run 10s.

I stand by my original point - a 260 rwhp gt weighing in at 3400# is not gonna run 12.6:bash:

You're not talking about 03-S281, are you? because back when he was at 260, he was running 13s...

tpi cars are full weight around 3350-3500lbs for the fbodies dependin on options and about 3250-3400 for the vettes, not exactly sure.

torque will really help a car run quick times.. torquey cars kill on the 1/8 mile, then get run down by higher hp cars in the 1/4

Yeah that's him... his best run now is 12.6. Adding power is no the only way to lower your ET. Cutting weight and a good suspension set up works just as well:idea:

I can show you a video of a 10 second nissan 300 and say it's n/a - doesn't make it so.

Well, I did a little more research. Putnam's race weight was 3,225 lbs. in that video. At that point the car still had all it's creature comforts.

So, 3,225 lbs. - ~260 rwhp - and a best of 12.47 @ almost 109 mph.

Gee whiz, 2Vs really are owning physics!

Here is Bill Putnam's website, all the information you ever wanted to know about that car, and the recipe for beating physics:

http://users.adelphia.net/~mustang-92/index.html

So, while you can show us a video of a 10 second Nissan 300 and say it's n/a with a stock longblock, you won't be able to prove it like I can. :)

Feel free to admit your error at any point...

I've seen him run mid to high 12's also. When he was at 260 he had a stock rear and DR's, now he has a built rear and running slicks.
