My truck was broken into and my laptop was stolen, among other things. :fm:

What im getting at is this, i use a different AIM screen name with the laptop, and the ****er keeps logging in. Is there any ip tracing software i can use to figure out where he is logging in from?

I really need to bust this fool, i think its some kid in my neighborhood.

Ive been doing research and havent found much :read:

UNLESS HE HAS AN IDENTIFIABLE IP ADDRESS....ie, the cable modem or service provider node, it isn't easy...........TELL THE COPS HE'S POSTING KIDDIE PORN, THEY'LL GET HIM......

AOL would be able to track what IP address they are logging in from. Best to get the police involved and see what they can do.

i have filed a police report, but if i can pin point that ****er i will burn down his life

anyone know of a port scanner i can use ?

If he's using broadband they should be able to figure it out by who the broadband modem using the connection is registered to.

Anyone tried LoJack for laptops yet?

Just as a suggestion... don't say anything incriminating here about your future actions. If you do something to him once you find him, this could be held against you.

Tell me this...even if you COULD get his IP then what would you do? It's not like that will give you his home address so you could go beat him.

Tell the popo that he is using your AIM account and that if they contact AOL they can ask for records to see who is logging in with that screen name, they should be able to give the popo an IP and then they would contact the ISP for that IP and get the person's address from the ISP. That's probably your best bet, but I wouldn't count on that happening.

The port scanner idea isnt a good one, as you'll probably get in trouble with your ISP and won't be able to find anything anyways. If you want to get his IP, the best way could be social engineering. By that I mean....make a new screen name, one that sounds girly, and IM him when you see your name pop up and start talking to him very nice and flirty. If he gets talking there is a possibility you could get him to give up his IP. Maybe tell him sex was great or something and that you want to send him the pictures that were taken during the sex, haha. He will think its some girl you're bangin and want to see the pics and may give up his IP that way.

I have an idea. Are you able to converse with the guy on AIM by any chance?

If so, I have a relatively easy way to get his IP address. Basicly you would direct him to a bogus script I could write on my website. This script would then in turn act like the server is having issues, yet dump his IP address to a file separate from the rest of my log files (although it would go there too) for quick lookup. Then, go to the po, give them the IP, let them know yershit was stolen. Should be good enough for a warrant (I hope), they get the address from the ISP, and bam, asshat is caught.

Log in to AOL and IM him, act like a girl who will give it up. Meet him somewhere. Tell the police. Props to vetteslay0r for his idea.
