[QUOTE="Tispho, post: 10495806, member: 80068"] DAY1: TISPHO's Pennzoil Syncromesh fluid swap MILEAGE ON SWAPPED FLUID: 50 SIDE EFFECTS: Audible whine can now be heard from transmission. So I was tired of waiting for Ford, and I decided to change the fluid to Pennzoil Syncromesh because this was getting ridiculous. I figure ill just use some cheap fluid now, then switch to whatever Ford recommends when the TSB comes out. I am under the presumption that they are currently in the process of producing the right fluid, or contracting with some other company to make it for them. I am starting to lose confidence in Ford, there is no sure date of when the TSB is coming out, and the grinding issue is totally unacceptable. Fluid Change: The fluid change was very simple I drove the rear of the car onto some blocks of wood, jacked up the front, made sure the car was leveled, drain the old fluid, and pumped the new fluid in till it reached 1/2 inch under the fill hole. The Drive: It was about 40 degrees F when I began the test drive. Right off the line the shifting was 10x better than the old fluid. I drove 25 miles softly (With the original fluid it grinded the most when I drove it softly), then I spent another 25 miles driving it aggressively. THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO GRIND WHATSOEVER WITH THE NEW FLUID. Cons: I noticed that the Pennzoil/GM Syncromesh fluid that I put in was extremely light, The light fluid caused an audible whine that becomes less audible as you switch into a higher gear. This whine sounds like a supercharger from a 2003 - 2004 Cobra. Heat may be an issue, after the hard 25 mile drive, I touched the tranny and it felt hot, I was not able to hold my finger on there for more than a second. The shifter area inside the cabin did not feel hot, only warm. Pros: Personally, for now, I think that the Pros of switching to this fluid outweigh the cons. It shifts much nicer, and there is absolutely no grind. Other Thoughts: When I drained the fluid, it was brown and purple depending on how you looked at it. I noticed an unusual amount of metal flakes inside the oil. Not sure if this is a sign of trouble or not. I will continue to report on this fluid weekly until the TSB is posted.
