To begin with, the forum search function was not working tonight when I started this thread, so I was not able to search previous threads about the matter. With that said and behind us, I'd like info regarding converting my 03 Cobra to an auto tranny. Before I get flamed about doing it, I would like to put it out there that I'm a disabled veteran who cannot row gears anymore, and I love my Cobra enough to want to keep it....I just need to make revisions.

I Specifically need answers to the following questions:

What HD tranny is the best to use for a race/street application?
What other parts and/or modifications do I need, or have to be made for the conversion?
What's the approximate cost to do the conversion?
Do I need a new drive shaft, or can I use the one I have now and make changes if necessary?
Any suggestions, tips, words of wisdom etc....for me to think about?
I'd love to do the conversion as sanitary as possible so I could put the T56 back in if needed for a resale if that were to ever come to fruition.

I just finished up converting my wife's black 03, and have some links saved that will defiantly help you.

it was a fun project!!! and she is much happier daily driving the 4r70w in phoenix traffic!

To answer some of you questions:

1: the trans would be any 4r70w, the links have discussions on builders.

2: for me, I wanted a stock mustang auto shifter, this involved modifying the tran tunnel. in order to put a t56 back in, I would have to get a new trans hump and weld it back in.

3: I didn't add up the cost, but with a used trans and torque convertor, it was around 3500$. ( this would obviously be much hire on new built units )

4: there is some good info on the driveline in the links.

5: do not skimp on a trans cooler, will be the most important part you install, IMHO.

thanks
