I am planning to do several road racing events this year. In the past, I have used street tires; i.e. Goodyear GS-D3s. I would like to use competition tires and would like advise on what brand and type to buy. I would like some service life, vs buying new tires every several outings.

Toyo RA1 @ Frisby Tire ...... talk to Todd for a great price. I don't have a number, but you can look at the website. I have 275/35/18 front and 305/35/18 rear. Some folks I know have been able to get a full season out of them. Great for wet track.....awesome for dry! Looking forward to trying them out myself this season.

Dedicted track tire - not DOT approved would be Hoosiers.
I believe the new Nitto is not DOT approved. The 55R2 is.
Depends on what you want to do.
