Playing like the first two vids doesn't make you a great guitarist. The speed is impressive, but there is nothing more to it. There is no soul. No rythm. No substance behind it besides power chords.

The vid posted above me shows a creative style. He has one instrument that he uses to play the lead, rythm, and percussion. That's talent.

Here is a vid of an unknown guitarist who I feel kicks ass and that's hard for me to post this guy because I don't like people who are 'cover bands,' especially when it comes to covering my personal favorite band Led Zeppelin. Though he isn't being 'creative' in these vids because he is replicating instead (sometimes he plays along with a Zepplelin track and is 99% spot on to Jimmy Page. Not easy to do), I feel if you were to let him do something on his own that it would be nothing but impressive.

His name is jun626 on YouTube. Check out how he executes the songs. Here is a link to his YouTube Channel where he has vids of his bands doing covers of Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, Deep Purple, and a few others. http://www.youtube.com/user/jun626

I chose this vid just for the solo start because there are no tabs for this because its off the BBC sessions and the solo was done by Page while he was doing his usual amazing improv. They have much more impressive vids, but I like this one. I'll post a few others just so you get the general idea.

Having said all that. You can't cover Led Zeppelin. It's a sin.

I agree.I can appreciate the time put in practicing those scales and it's cool to be able to rip like that, but I personally find it annoying when thats all it's about.Give me 4 notes that have feeling over 400 notes that are just a sweep over some scales.

My favorite and most "Unknown" guitarist is Roy Buchanan.

Roy Buchanan is incredible! his version of Sweet Dreams is an amazing take on that song!:coolman:

I couldn't agree more. Zepplin is one of my favorite supergroups. I have a bootleg CD from '77 that's worth around $1K. I also have all of their autographs including John Paul Jones. Page couldn't have played as fast as a lot of these guys, but he had a hell of a lot more soul. The most recent, but still old version of him, is (IMO) is Marty Friedman. He is very well versed in all forms of music. He's self taught. Here's a blues clip of him.

Wow, some of these guys are truly talented. Some may have heard of Jesse Cook but for the most part he is relatively unknown. I've been listening to him for years and think he is quite talented a well.

the new guitarist for Megadeth, Chris Broderick. He, also, played in Jag Panzer, and Nevermore. He is a great guitarist, not well known. All the videos show is diverse styles. He is very talented, in my opinion. One of my favorite guitarists.

I've been listining to Peter Greens stuff with his out of phase humbucker tone for some time.Roy Buchanan come on,every decent guitarists has studied him in some way.Nothing unknown about him.I guess it's hard to turn me onto some great older musicians when I've been playing 28 years.:coolman:
