Does anyone know if it is okay to put a larger tire on the stock Bullitt wheel? My tires are due for a changing and I want to up the size. I like the stock wheels and I don't want to get rid of them. Is it possible to put a 265-45/17 on the stock wheel and not have ANY problems? Thanks for the input guys?

I just checked on tirerack.com . . . The largest approved wheel for 17 x 8 is 245/45R17 You'll need a 17 x 9 Rim to get the 275/40 R17 . My dad has sold Bridgestones for 25 years, and says that that info is correct.

Here is what a 275/40 R17 looks like on a 17 x 10.5 Rim

That's why most people with newer GT's WITH stock wheels upgrade to 275's in the rear. You can run a 275 on a 8" wheel, no problem, no risks.

You can run a 315 on a 9" rim, no problems no risks. Close the damn books.

Thanks for all the input, but I don't know what to believe now!! LOL! The tire stores never want to do anything "custom", but I thought it was possible to change a little bit. I LOVE the look of a wider tire, as I'm sure the rest of us all do. I want to go larger, but don't want a problem with rubbing etc, etc. Unfortunately, I can't afford new wheels too, and on top of that even if I could I STILL like the stock bullitt wheels. I don't know what to do and this thread seems to be pretty torn on what to do! Anybody else out there that has done this or has another opinion. LOL

275 will work without any problems at all. I work at a dealer and I see it ALL the time. I've seen the 275's on bullitt wheels, 5-star pony wheels, 93-01 cobra wheels.

Thanks poopnut2! I guess that will be my decision then unless something in between a 245 and a 275 is a better price. Wider is better!;-) :burnout:

I am using 96-98 5-star split gt rims. I want to get them widened. Never been throught that process yet. Anybody know how much it costs approximately? What is the widest you can take a 17x8?

id stick with 245's myself untill u get enough money to get a 9" rim then throw on 275's. You probably wont have any problems with putting the 275's on the 8" but it is going to look like sh*t. The sidewalls will be bulging like crazy. And that GT in the picture up looks crappy, sorry to say but those wheels are wayyyyyyyyyyy too wide for a 275. to each there own I guess. Just giving my .02:read:

On a 95 GT with Eibach pro-kit springs what is the widest tire I can fit on the 96-98 gt rim 17x8, for the front. Obviously I will be putting 275 40zr 17's for the back. I just want no rubbing when turning on the front. But still want the tires to equal out. Not one super small and one super big. LOL
