i was considering maybe picking up The Dark Knight when it's released on Blu Ray.

will I see any difference over the regular dvd (tv only does up to 1080i)

would decent comparison be watching a movie in standard definition movie station VS watching it on an HD station?

Do you have a Blu-Ray player now? Does it up-convert standard DVD's to 1080i? Kind of hard to answer your question when we don't know what your current hardware is capable of.

Blue ray is WAY better than regular DVD. I just picked up a PS3 and I have a few blue ray movies already and it is night and day difference. I hate watching regular DVD's now.

what type of resolution does your TV put out?

would you compare it to watching an NFL game on the regular fox network, to watching an NFL on FoxHD type of difference?

there isn't that much of a HUGGGE difference between interlaced and progressive. You'll still get a lot out of 1080i regardless. In this situation, 480i compared to 1080i.. the default is 1080.

I have a PS3 with a few Blu-ray movies. My TV only goes up to 720p, but I can definitely tell the difference between BR movies and upconverted DVD's.

Go to a store that is playing BR on a 1080p tv and the clarity is phenomenal.

to answer the OP.. It depends on your TV.

also just for the record.....

DVD vs VHS = HUGE DIFFERENCE
BluRay vs DVD = marginal

stereo vs 5.1 DD = HUGE DIFFERENCE
7.1 vs 5.1 = barely noticeable

I have yet to be impressed by BluRay. $5 dvds all day long!

Circuit City had a display showing the difference between a regular DVD and a Blue-Ray. I thought I was going blind by the difference between the screens. Clarity and depth in a Blue-Ray is unreal. Its like stepping into the movie. And when it cleared the screen to regular dvd mode it was like everything went to a blur. I could not believe it. Just like HD cable. Watch football in regular definition and then switch to HD. Its like being in the game. My wife loves watching football in HD. Says its almost like being there.

If you're asking if it will be worth it... then yes it will. Especially with it being the Dark Knight they will probably release it in the highest quality possible. If you didn't know they have a 3 tier system for BluRay cause some of the movies look better then others like Black Hawk Down and Finding Nemo are all top tier BluRay flicks.

Here are some comparisons, you can see the clarity difference between DVD and Blu-ray:
http://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.php?p=617171&postcount=5

Also, the picture quality isn't even HALF of Blu-ray experience. The uncompressed audio track is a completely lossless stream, the original audio track. Of course, you need an HDMI capable receiver to take advantage of this, but it is INCREDIBLE. The pop-up menus make it so you don't have to stop play to change options, and with Blu-ray 2.0 there are all kinds of built-in features that will blow your mind.

I have a brand new 52" Samsung plasma 1080

And yes, huge difference. Like I said before, I hate watching dvd's now. Its like if you have dvd's and then going back to watch vhs movies.
