Bolting cat straight to the header?

Can i weld a 3 bolt flange on the cat, and bolt it straight to the end of the header flange, or should i leave some space?

I just did that 2 days ago.I had them put a 3 bolt flange onthe high flow cat and bolted it to the collector.Sounds great.I had not cats before but was way too loud.

Sweet, did you use a gasket? if so wat should i get.

I cut my flange off and then had the exhaust shop weld on a piece of piping to the collector. No need to worry about leaks.

I kinda wanted to keep the flange, just incase i blow a cat out i can change it myself.

Sweet, did you use a gasket? if so wat should i get.

Just a regular 3 hole gasket....No leaks.I only put the flange on one side of the cat where it connects to the header.The other side is welded to the custom made mid pipe.Then the mids slide into the X pipe of the Bassani.

Sweet, thats the only thing iam debating on getting is an x pipe.
