I'm picking up a new (to me) truck to run in the winter. The truck I am considering is in good shape, and is at a great price; the only problem is that the truck has sat for the last 3 yrs. Aside from dried up hoses, belts, and gaskets; what problems could this truck have due to the long period of sitting? What potential trouble spots should I look for?

Tires. Definitely the tires. If it has sat on its tires for 3 years, I wouldn't be surprised if you'll have to buy new ones because of sidewall damage. Also, consider the gas tank and fuel lines.

The current owner just put new tires on it (since the old ones were dry rotted). And I would change all fluids/filters when i got it. What has to be done to reseal the tank? Is that a diy project? Also, what could have been damaged if the owner just fired the truck up without any preperation after 3 yrs?

Change/flush ALL fluids and put new oil/trans/fuel filters on for sure.

Check the rear end fluid level and ensure its not milky/hasn't been under water.

Did the truck sit inside or out?

Probably will want to invest in a new set of wiper blades too..;-)
