Was hoping to get some opinions about The Flats in Cleveland, as it stands today.

We're leaving Cedar Point and heading to the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. We did the same trip in 1999 and spent the last day at the Rock n Roll HOF and hung out at The Flats and had a great time for 8hrs.

I was told that its not as exciting as it used to be due to a lot of redevelopment.

I'm not sure what to believe, so I figured I'd ask the locals.

So any opinions on The Flats are appreciated.

If it is a no-go, then what part of Cleveland, between the Rock n Roll HOF and Jacobs Field is a good place to go between early afternoon and into the night.

Thanks!

Chris

Ya theres not much left in the flats in the way of restaurant/bar places. Shooters is about all that is worth going down there for unless you want to go to the strip club or the aquarium. As far as downtown the casino seems to be the spot these days. It is a far cry from the 90s for sure.

This is probably a bit too late; but for future reference if anything.

The "Flats" were composed of the East and West banks. The East bank was pretty much abandoned and completely tore down in the early 2000's due to lack of updates and of course criminal activity. The entire property was bought out and developers laid out a plan for condo's, hotels, and restaurants/bars.

3 restaurants have opened in the past month on what was the old east bank. There is more to come; but that is all that is there now. This is part of Phase 1 and they are now also into Phase 2. By next year there will be another 8-10 additional restaurants/bars opening along with a hotel.

The west bank as mentioned only has Shooters and The Aquarium left along with a scattering of old bars.

If you are looking for places, such as restaurants/bars, to hang out for a while I would suggest Ohio City or Tremont which are both about 5 minutes from the baseball park. There are a ton of options in both locations that were previously not available even 5 years ago. There are always events going on in Tremont especially during the summer including an artwalk every second Friday of the month that showcases the galleries, retails stores, and the restaurants/bars in the neighborhood.
