Connection Trouble when trying to connect to P2P Program

My roommate and I purchased a router so we could connect both our computers and ever since then it won't let me connect to my P2P programs. Does anyone know how to get around this??? Please help me.!!!! If I run it straight from the modem to my computer it works fine but when i connect throught the router it won't let me connect . My internet works fine its just my P2P programs don't work. Thanks

You didn't specifiy what P2P software you are running, or what kind of router you are running... But basically what you need to do is find out what ports those prorams are operating on and open them on the router.

I'm using Piolet/Blubster and using a Linksys 2.4GHz router...How do you open ports thats what someone else suggested was my problem??
