They are cloth... the CR1 is wider and the A4 is a narrower seat. If your a bigger guy get the CR1

How do you make them work without side air bags?

Is there any issues with other airbags not functioning properly if hit?

There is no issue with other air bags, but you need to attach few resistors together to trick the system and reuse the passenger side weight sensor bladder. To keep the airbag light off.There is an article on another forum. Just google search your year mustang and race seat install or air bag removal....or the easiest way is to just leave the airbag light on. The other airbags still work.
