whats the point of double clutch downshifting? why isnt a single clutch with rev match good enough? i found this video and its seems kinda pointless...:shrug:

That guy can drive. Did you see his heel/toe also!
I think the Double clutching is faster to do the to rpm match.

double clutching is necessary when driving a rally car, because their RPMs spike so fast you need to do it. Rally cars are monsters, they see over 300hp at 1000rpms

This didn't bring double clutching to mind did it? The last few threads i've read about it were rather inspired by ole Vin.

no, i was just watching random videos on "advanced shifting" and came across this. thought it was interesting

yeah, it used to be required in unsyncronized transmissions. Also as mentioned above, it's rather popular in Rally racing. If you haven't already, check out some details here. It shouldn't leave too many questions to the basics of why it's done.

yeha but a single clutch does the same thing :shrug:

the reason he double clutched, is because he is in a rally car. The shifter, rather than going straight to the next gear, makes a stop in neutral and then the clutch is released. This is to allow the engine to slow down (or with a tap on the gas, speed up when downshifting) so the transition into the next gear is much more smooth.
