Hey guys. I just got a set a nitto 555r (275/40/17) for use at the drag strip. I've never used DR's before, so I wanted to know what PSI I should run for the track. I was thinking 20psi cold or somewhere around there. Thanks

Bolt-on 98 cobra, K&N fipk, LT's/full exhaust, tune, 4.10s.

Won't matter, chances are your still going to spin.. I ran 555r for 2 years and could never get to hook. I tried everywhere from 24 down to 10. Best was around 18 cold.

12psi worked best for me a few years ago at ABQ dragway. All I had done was 4.10. Nitto 555R's will spin. May hook better now they did some improvements to the track.

They are a great tire for the street, but not great at the track. Worth the money imo though.

Anyways, I'd try something like 16 psi to start. I run them at 25 psi on the street. I have the same 275/40/17 on stock rims btw.

1.74 60ft on 17" nitters. They work.

I always went down to 14psi cold. 5-7 sec burnout and roll out of it. Quickly stage and preload the clutch. Slip it between 3800-4800. I averaged between 1.79-1.85 with them.

Thank you, this is exactly the information I was looking for.

Anyone who say's Nitto's don't work, arn't launching correctly. End of story. They arn't as sticky of a tire as a slick, but arn't bad for the average joe who is hitting the track.

Thanks cobralover. I didn't want to go out and spend the money on more expensive tires because I only go out to the track a few times a year for fun. I just wanted something that's better than a street tire that I can throw on for the few weekends that my friends and I do go out.

Keep in mind there is a huge difference between how a car can launch on stiff road race suspension compared to drag suspension too. Not all of it is in the tires.

Track prep has alot to do with it too. Our track is not always the best. This past year they put alot of money into makeing it better. They will work fine for what you are looking for.
