While cleaning my engine bay, I discovered my engine build date is January of 01 and the car build date on the door tag is 07/01. Is a spread like this normal?

Explains the Teksid block then. 6 months... I guess Just in Time inventory wasn't a thing for Ford back then.

Quite a few owners of early built 01 Cobras found they had Teksid blocks. Unfortunately mine was a late build.

JIT wasn't a priority for these engines as they were hand built. My engine was built 02/28/01. Car was built in March. I have a Teksid block.

Most of us know that WAP block was overly criticized. I'd take one for a BB stroker block any day.
Most do but some still think it will split in half above 450 rwhp.

Is it the strongest? No but it is just fine for the majority of us. I actually have a brand new one sitting in my garage that I plan to build.

After dealing with a big bore teksid I'm not sure I'd go that route again. Unless I really trusted the machine shop and have some money to burn. I'd keep it as a stroker with close to stock bore. That's why I ended up with a Boss block.

I never heard the 450hp limit. I'm guessing most people are saying it's a block failure with the rods let go and exit the side.

I'm sure I've read several articles by "people in the know" that said the WAP block was good to something like 750 HP. Above that they recommended the Teksid. Without finding those articles again I wouldn't want to quote actual names.

I've seen it repeated in FB groups before I dumped it.

There also used to be a guy on corral that did everything he could to steer people away from that block claiming it was junk but never provided I shred of proof to back up his claims.

If the block was indeed junk the cobra and mach1 guys would have proven it ages ago.

I broke 3 pistons in my WAP block, but the block itself was fine. Though I was probably around 500hp at that point. Gotta love internet mechanics.

Sorry guys... didn't mean for this to turn into a WAP vs Teksid thread. It's been 25 years; I think it's proven both will support way over 450hp
