Engine cleaning

I want to clean my engine but I am afraid that if I get the signature sticker wet I will lose the names. Any body have any tip on how to do this and keep the sticker dry. Also does anybody have a good way to keep water out of the sparkplug holes?

personally I just take a little diluted simple green spray it on a clean rag and wipe the entire block down and if I am really anal go over the rubber with son of a gun protectant

Thats what I do. Spray some simple green, wipe down, spray with water, let it dry, and then spray it done with some tire shine.
