Exhaust Tips?

Okay, I'm coming clean on my lack of knowledge out exhaust systems. Currently I have a stock system and I would like to keep it that way, however. I find that the stock tail pipes are ugly and I want to upgrade them to a crome 3" round over tip. My question is can I just purchase them at the local auto store and have a place like car-X or Mieneke weld them on? Any help would be great.

Yes, either the stock tips or aftermarket tips may need to be modified however, unless you want your aftermarket tips to stick out like 6" from the rear valence.
