When is it necessary to replace the factory computer with a stand alone system such as a FAST, AEM, etc or even have a after market chip? What are the limitations of the factory computer? Let's say my '93 puts out 500hp and has an adequate fuel system (injectors, pump, lines, regulator). Do I need a stand alone system? Your opinions please!

It isn't so much how much power you have as how you're making it... and how well you want it to run. I've seen 1000hp Mustangs running just fine with only an AFM PMS, and I've seen 600hp cars that won't tune without a F.A.S.T. stand alone. I'd say it really depends on how good your tuner is, and what they prefer to use.

You will optimize drivablilty as well as max power with a tune. But as long as you have a wide band to keep tabs on fuel and you've got the timing high enough without any detonation you should be ok. Thats all I have currently.
