OK, first question:
My wife got stationed at Shaw AFB after being in the poop scrap Goodfellow AFB. To our surprise, Shaw AFB is even more unorganized, and finance is just as bad :nonono:.
I have been unemployed since January, and finally (thanks to the Priority Placement Program) I received a job offer. I got the offer about a month ago, it is at Fort Jackson, I accepted. The job is a GS-07 Computer Assistant (I wanted the GS-09 Network Specialist but it was gone :shrug

After dealing with PSIPs and finally getting that ridiculous package submitted correctly and fingerprinted and what not, I was given a EOD for 09 May 2011. My question is (since the HR lady is not answering me): What should I expect on my EOD? Will this be mostly orientation and more paperwork? New ID? Will I actually start working? Or will I be told to do this and that and than a start date in a month?
Now for my second question and scenario:
My wife hates the enlisted now. We kept pushing it off as "it is just Goodfellow AFB that is unorganized like this", and than we get to Shaw AFB and it is worse. She can not stand how lazy her co workers are and that leadership wont do anything about it. So she has decided to get out and switch to the Guard. She almost has her AA degree and knows more than anybody else she works with about her job (she has done like 3 different jobs, PCS outbound, Student outbound, and Deployments) and is constantly having to correct NCOs and leadership for making wrong decisions, which ended up making her "in charge", but she is not a "leader". I figured this would be good and she wouldnt have any problem finding a job outside of the military with this promising experience, but, she wants to go guard too, just in case. She mentioned Palace Chase and that she has to wait until 6 months before her Date of Separation before she can switch. Is this true or is she misinformed?
Last question:
I will be getting my degree the summer of 2013 (BS in Space Studies, minor in physics, APUS). Once I get this degree can I also join the guard as an officer and keep my GS job? Once I get my degree I want to transfer into a field related to Space Studies, Aeronautics, Rocketry, something along those lines. But, I am not sure if I will be able to get a GS job in that field and if not, I may go guard so I can at least do something in that field.
Also, no bashing of the Air Force, I just think she has had a run of bad luck with co workers, and it just isnt her thing anymore.
