I always wanted to buy a Cobra but could never afford one, finally came up on a good deal and picked it up yesterday, just have a few questions. I found some oil in the intake tube and when I open the throttle body you can see some inside the elbow to the blower, should I be worried? I looked into the problem and read a few post, so my worse case scenario is damaged rings. Now how do I determine if that's my issue? I did check the pcv valve and it looks pretty old and noticed the oil level on my dipstick is right under max.
Car has 123k miles pushing 19 psi on a tvs making 600hp tuned by psi in Houston

I ran the compression test, these are the results
1)155
2)150
3)155
4)150
5)150
6)60. Wet) 120
7)40. Wet) 80
8)150

Not good

Never a good idea to run 19psi on pump gas....unless the timing is super low....but the 600+ proves that wasn't the case. Not sure why someone thought it was a good idea to push high boost/high timing, especially at that mileage

Always, always get the compression results before you buy, not after

I paid 10k for the car, am debating on Parting it out or fixing it. So the rings went out according to my results?

who knows for sure, probably need a borescope and check it out. seems like it's rarely ever "just the rings"....there's almost always some piston and cylinder wall damage as well.

Am going to pull the motor and tear it apart this week, I'll keep you guys updated. Any advice on a BUDGET build would be helpful I just want to get it back on the road. Am going to put back the eaton and bring everything back to stock. With that being said can i use the handheld tuner I have with the car to return the car back to the stock tune?

No need to replace the TVS. It's a great blower. Just do a pulley swap and run a lower, safer boost. I think if you do the work of teardown and reassembly, you will save a lot of money. But without knowing what damage there is, don't plan on it being a BUDGET build. I have about 10,000 in my rebuild. But I did do some upgrades along with a set of stage 2 comp cams.

I just spent a little under $6k on a freshening up my motor after it dropped a valve and seat with new Manley 11cc pistons, bored .020 over, billet oil pump gears, ARP everything, new bearing/seals/misc, etc etc from MPR. If you have the coin i would go this route. You'll only be in the car $16k and you'll basically have a new motor.

I'll know in a couple of days what the damage is. If my pistons are good and the walls on the cylinders are not damaged i will just do rings and bearings, just to get it back on the road. I will bring the power back down to around 450. Am not trying to make big power just want to enjoy the car. If I start going all out building the motor to withstand 1k hp, cams, rebuild head and port etc. I will end having the car just sit in the garage for too long. All that money just to push 450hp doesn't seem worth it.

just delete the pcv. that connects valve cover to the intake. guessing you know what it is, but if not pcv is effective as a crankcase ventilation system and as a pollution control device. put filters on the valve cover and cap the intake tube, or run to a catch can. for a catch can they make a couple ways to do it. run rubber lines off the valve cover to a can. or you can weld on AN fittings/ or buy MMR press in an fittings to run lines to a catch can. this one is much easier because you don't gotta weld they just press into factory rubber grommets. depending how fancy you want to get and how much $$$$$$$ u want to spend : D congrats on owning a cobra now!

Finally opened up my motor, turns out some of you guys were right it wasn't just the rings. Piston 6/7 melted, and 8 had a little damage am guessing a chunk of 7 went into 8. There is some build up on the heads from the pistons melting would I be ok with just getting them cut and re using them?
These are pictures of the head

Damn that sux. Not sure on the heads, the pics are really small. I certainly hope those are reusable, if not your rebuild will go up thousands

I found a ported eaton for $300 so am going to buy it and sell the tvs, injectors and mafia sensor, I'll bring the car back to stock but atleast I'll have money to rebuild the motor. Can I use the tuner to return back to stock tune or will i have to take it back to the guys who tuned the car?
