Ok so our local quaker steak and lube holds a car show every monday,(when the weather is nice) and there are a lot of classic muscle cars and some other american stuff, ricers don't dare to show (which is extremely nice!). Anyways, leaving on Monday there was a guy in a 68 camaro and he's older, but still cool kinda cocky. Well I start to mess with him on the road give him a rev he revs back. Well we couldn't get a race in (too much traffic). Come Last night (thurs.) Driving on the highway at around 12. Guess who's cruising down it? THE CAMARO! Same one!! He says he has 500 horse and crap. So there is no traffic we stop, on the highway! We do three honks and BAM! This dude gets the front wheels off the ground! (not a lot 2 or three inches) But I'm just like Damn, I don't stand a chance. But I keep it punched and he was initally like 2 cars ahead and then around 75-85 he looks like he is standing still! I catch him and fly by him,(he's still at full throttle thing was loud) at around 120 I was a car ahead and let off the throttle. I asked him what happened? He says, "The car is made for the track, I got 5.50's in the rear-end and I start to run out of gear around 100" I was like "Ok, but if it was a "race track car" wouldn't he be going at least 120 and more?" I mean that guy probally has a 7 sec 1/8 mile car a high 12sec 1/4 mile car. 5.50's Do they even make those?? LOL I don't know what to think! Just thought I share!

Yea - he's probably an 1/8th mile king. Never heard of 5.50's

Good story

I won't suppose to know all geat ratios but 5.50 does not sound like a common one to me (until now). Did he mention what rear he has (GM 12 bolt, dana, Ford 9", ??)? My Willys has some massively steep gears for off road, but even at that, they are 5.38's. This is in a D44, BTW.

With the 12 bolt, 5.14's is the deepest I've heard of.
Dana 60s can be had with 5.86's.
I think my 5.38's are as big as possible on the D44.

With a Ford 9", you can get LOTS of ratios...(the list does include a 5.50 though)

2.8 42-15 4.22 38-9
