Hey guys, came here for some advice ...

My trucks going to be paid off in a couple months and that means its time to join the 5.bro club. Im looking at 2012-13s. Its mainly going to be a summer toy/weekend warrior, I may hit the track a couple times but its primarily use will be on the streets. Any advice and things to look for? Things to steer clear of? ....

-Transmission-I would love a manual but am kind of turned off by the MT82 horror stories, any reason to be afraid? It'll be a bolt on car, may go supercharger but thats far down the road...
-Gears-Best gears to run on the street? Probably do some roll racing, dont really give a damn about gas mileage though.
-Interior-Ive heard Recaros or die so I will look for that. Any other must have interior features?

Other than that, feel free to provide any good or bad experiances you have had. Ive done a ton of research on these cars but figured I would get advice from owners.

Thanks in advance

The Auto's will come stock with 3.15 gears. AED or Mike Rousch Tune, O/R Midpipe, Drag Radials... Low 12' - high 11's for around 1,000 bucks.

Have you had any problems with the M6? Reading that 6th gear likes to the fail

Agreed. But since the OP is leaning more towards a street car id go M6.

Ive had zerro issues with my MT 82, only thing ive done to it is throw a Boss shift knob on it.

of the 5 11+ GT's on my street all daily driven differently with milage from 25K-50K, none have had transmission issues. seems overblown to me...however, we did all upgrade the brackets and install different shifters....the stock shifter is junk.

and redline shifting into 5th gear can be tricky, cant rush it like the first 4 gears...

other than that, the MT has been great to me and my buddies.

I have the mt-82 and don't have any major problems. I have the whine that a lot have but I'm also running 15# of boost they my VMP TVS! It hasn't taken a crap on me yet. If you wNt a toy car, I'd go with the 6 speed. It much more fun to drive but to each his own. For gears, it depends on whether you plan to supercharge or go turbos. I had 4.10s then put the supercharger on and went back with the stock 3.31s. Figure out the end goals and go from there. Supercharger-3.31 or less. N/A- go 4.10s. Recaros are going to cost you. Go for the leather and call it a day.

My MT-82 made a ton of noise, and the dealer ended up replacing it under warranty at 17K miles... which took seven weeks. I have a loaded model (glass roof, comfort pack, Nav, HIDs, Brembos, power/heated Recaros that I installed myself, etc) and I wouldn't want it any other way. The only thing I would change about my car is the gears. I have 3.73s, and with the gear ratios in the 2011 MT82, first gear is way too steep. I'll be swapping them for 3.31s someday, especially since I intend to put a whipple on the car.

It would be boring as hell to drive an automatic everyday. They're great for track consistency, but if the emphasis is on enjoying the car for your daily driver, stick shift all the way.

^this a million times!! I cant own a sports car that is auto. It takes all the fun out of owning a muscle car. Havent had any problems with my m6 other than wanting to upgrade the shifter.

I have almost 14k miles on my Boss and I don't have any issues with the M6. I'm not sure why people are saying that the 3.73's are too steep, I actually love the way my car is geared with them.

Thanks for all the feecback guys. Kind of at a stand still right now, just cant decide on the a M6 or not. Im trying to convince myself autos are faster and I should go for reliability, but a stick is so much fun. It would really suck to have the car in the shop constantly though, our summers in Minnie arent very long as is.

Id go with manual and get a clutch and tires. After getting a new clutch the mt82 has worked perfectly for me. Just a Barton bracket and no miss shifts, clutch doesn't stick, and no lock outs. I think it's more the stock clutch that is the problem.

I have had no issues with my M6 after putting almost 40k miles on her since late 2012. I've only been locked out of gear twice, partly my own fault.

If the car is a weekend toy, you can't beat a M6 IMO. If you were going to DD the car, then an A6 would make more sense. But seriously, coming from (what I assume is a 99-03 Supercrew in your signature), don't you want the ability to step on the other side of the line from that old auto?

2013 M6, 25k miles, 1st tranny ate first and reverse gears, have no Idea why.. Dealership replaced under warranty. Now, if you go M6, separate the clutch and brake reservoir. I feel like the stock setup is not fully disengaging the clutch from the engine, that's why some report grinding between gears and cold start notchiness. the only thing I have not done is upgraded steel clutch line. I do not feel that I need it at this point the car shifts beautiful. You cant blame it all on the tranny either. This trans is not like the old t56, this trans like finness, not muscle. There is definitely a learning curve there. I did this and noticed immediate difference in shift effort. Even cold now, I do not get the notchiness that the MT-82 is known for. So far I have, mgw shifter, whiteline tranny bushing, separated clutch and brake reservoir (wildwood brake reservoir), and Amsoil MTF synchromesh. This thing now shifts like it was meant to. Smooth as butter. So I say to you op, yeah the auto may be easier to go fast, but if you want M6, go for it. It will be way more fun and if you take these steps that I have listed you should get years and years of trouble-free usage. If I had to do it all over again, I would still go M6. Stick to I die!

Hey now ...I do have a 91 escort with a 5 speed, slow as hell but sometimes I get 2nd gear rubber.

Im going to test drive both, considering my truck is the fastest thing ive driven in 10 years(the 5.4 is a dog) I dont think I will be disappointed in either choice.

If I do go with the M6 maybe I will buy an extended warranty if thats at all possible.

Thanks for the tips. I will definitely keep that in mind. I could always save for an upgraded transmission too, I just dont want to take a 20k+ loan out and then have to dump a bunch of money into the tranny. That moneys needed for my modification list. :pepper:
