Well on th 29th I'll be up at Steeda with my car. Gonna do some gears, full lenth subs and get a Predator. Was pretty set on getting the FRPP 4.10's but everytime I mention it everyone is saying "no get the 4.30's." After running the gear calculator it seems there is only a 129rpm difference between the two at 80mph. I guess that is really not much of a difference. Either way I do a little bit of highway driving maybe 8 miles at the most everyday. When I came home yesterday from work I ran in 4th gear around 26 to 2800 rpm's to see how I liked it and realized really that is the Mach's cruising sweet spot. Well I still have a week to make up my mind. So what do you guys think since this is the 8 millionth thread oh this. Oh hear is the gear calculator.

I think you'd be happy either way you go. I'd have gone with 4.30s except I drive 30 miles of highway every day. Plus there's plenty of highway between me and the local track. And I plan on using nitrous eventually. If you are staying NA you will like 4.30 or 4.56. Of course if you don't race then it doesn't really matter except for the fun factor. :burnout:

ZincDude,

If you're going to be driving mostly on the street, then I would go with 4.10's instead of 4.30's. You'll be saving some gas and RPM on the highway, while still enjoying short gears and acceleration.

Here's something I posted over at Mach1Mustang.org:

When it comes to deciding between 4.10's and 4.30's for a street driven car, I would probably go with 4.10's. What I have yet to figure out is why some people describe the difference between 4.10's and 4.30's as being night and day. There is a 177 RPM difference in 1st gear, a 314 RPM difference in 2nd gear, a 311 RPM difference in 3rd gear, a 314 RPM difference in 4th gear, and a 324 RPM difference in 5th gear. Based on this information, I would think the difference between the two gear ratios cannot be as significant as often described.

Here's a chart of information I gathered from this calculator. This information only holds true if you have the stock Tremec transmission and you are running stock tire sizes (245/45/17). Note that this information also holds true for 315/35/17 tire sizes.

Assume your engine is at a constant 6800 RPM.

Thanks for the info Wurd. Yeah my car has never seen a drag strip and I can't say when it ever will. Shoot me but its true. Then again once I get the gears I might think I'm Speed Racer and might want to go to the track. :D

I ended up going with the 4.10's. Really does make a big difference in the way the car performs. I use to drive normal until I got on the highway and now I'm gunning it through the gears just to get there. It was just my gut telling me to go with 4.10's. As far as the f/l subframes, they are freaking excellent. Should have done that in the beginning. It's true what they say about any little squeaks you have, on the outside of the car, that they go away cause my did. Well for the moment. Could not be happier with my experience with Steeda. I had a lot of fun hanging out there. Oh yeah I got the hookup with Poisonous Mods and obtained a Predator thru him. So adjusting the speedo was no problem. Either was turning of the traction control!! :D Steeda uploaded the Predator tune for me but with the gears it is hard to tell if it helped performance wise. One thing for sure the car seems to idle smoother.
