@MarcSpaz I can't speak to the Sig conundrum, but I have made two observations about my handguns, and G17's in particular.

First, I have discovered there are some guns that I personally don't shoot well. No explanation. It is what it is.

Second, I used to think my 1911's shot the most accurately for me, in particular an older Colt Govt 5" and a SA Range Officer 5". Both have 1000 rounds plus through them so they should be broken in well.

...until I shot them side by side at 25 yards with my well broken in G17 gen 4 (5000 rounds through it with all new springs). I shoot the same sized groups with all three pistols. (All that said, I can't shoot a G34 worth a crap, when it should shoot better than a G17, go figure)

That is all.

I was thinking that some of it may be fit and comfort. For example, I have a S.A. 1911a1 that you have to try to miss in order to have bad groups. My buddy has a seriously modded Kimber 1911 that is the same way.

They both feel very comfortable in my hands. Very natural. My SIGs feel kind of heavy and they have fatter grips. I would never daily carry them because of the manual safety and limited capacity.

I don't know. I thought about brake/compensator barrels and skeletonised slides, etc., but I don't know if that stuff would help.

If I gun doesn't shoot well for me I sell it or trade it. Too many others out there.

That's odd you don't shoot a 34 well when you do great with a 17. They are the exact same grip and the 34 even has a lighter trigger from factory. With most it is exact opposite, especially since 34 has a longer sight radius and typically feels little softer shooting. But everyone has theirs they shoot best with :D

Exactly what I thought. I carry a G43 and shoot it almost as well as a 19 in BUG matches. I shoot a 17 in regular matches 2-3 weekends a month. Bought the G34 and sprayed bullets all over the place. I asked two good friends of mine who are excellent competitive shooters who both shoot 34s and they both stated that for whatever reason the 34 took some getting used to for them. I have no idea why, or why I shot it so poorly. It's gone now.

Unfortunately, even though the Legion is an amazing pistol, it's not even as accurate as my standard P226. So now I'm wondering where the problem lies and what I can do to improve accuracy.

What got me thinking about this today is a range trip yesterday. At 10 yards, quick draw, rapid fire... my Glock was consistently shooting of 1.5 in groups. Same exercise with my standard P226 was yielding between 2.5 to 3 in groups and the P226 Legion was yielding 3+ inch groups.

I'm not the best to give advise but are you saying the Legion is inherently less accurate than a standard 226?
If your Legion is doing 3-4" groups, even at 20 yards, something is wrong with the firearm or ammo.
If the firearm itself is accurate and repeatable, then it is a training issue.

Yes. My Legion in 9mm is less accurate than my standard in 40.

Pretty sure it's not the ammo since I am using the exact same ammo in the G17.

I don't think I'm the greatest shot... but I have a feeling it's not a training issue. Possible, but not likely.

Even if it was "training", I wouldn't train extra just so I could shoot a particular gun better, unless it was issued to me as a job requirement.

That said, we have Ken Hackathorn and Larry Vickers coming down for 2.5 days in February and maybe they can help me shoot this Grock even better.

@Jameeson , something that you said actually gives me a good idea. The question is, is the SIG inherently less accurate? The real answer to that question is, I don't know.

I have shot all of my pistols using isosceles and CAR methods, but I have not done any benchrest shooting. Something that is possible is that I'm reacting to the weapons differently while firing standing and unsupported. That could be a training or fitment issue.

Something I'll try doing during the week is, go back to the range, bring my bipod with me and I'll shoot while seated and supported to see if it's truly a weapon accuracy issue. If the groups improve drastically in comparison, then the weapons may just not be a good fit, vs. if the accuracy issues persist, perhaps I can spend a few dollars in mods to improve performance.

Thanks for the idea.

No prob - I would bag it down, check and make sure sights are secure, and see what happens with 2 or 3 types of ammo. 115 and 124gr. If it is still throwing shots... there might be a problem with the firearm itself. It would just be rare to see that be the case. That pistol, and really any modern handgun over $400, should put all the shots in almost the same hole at 7-10 yards.

All this talk has me itchy. Anyone else do some serious range time over the holidays?? :D
My never fired scar 17 was finally shot, and shot a lot. Ran like a champ.

Is that open to the public? If it is and we are anywhere near eachother, I would love to go.
The class is full, unfortunately. A very good friend of mine has assisted both Ken and Larry at other training events, and apparently Ken is either retired, or very close to retiring, so my friend called in some favors and got Ken to come down here in February for a full day Saturday, low light session Saturday night, then a full day Sunday. I believe Larry is just a few hours from me in Charlotte, but I think Ken lives three hours from an airport in ID.

That's awesome. So jealous. You guys are going to get a look behind the curtain.

Not sure I posted this before... my old SIG 716 Patrol. It was too heavy. My next 308 will be a Danial Defense.

...and my old DPMS which was the biggest POS on the face of the planet. Thing shot 6 MOA on a great day. It was what I got for an exchange for one that shot 10 MOA. I'll never buy another DPMS ever again.

So after shooting hundreds of rounds with my father today and then going out for lunch for baby back ribs I may have come to the conclusion that 10mm is my favorite caliber.

Even more so than .45 but I need more time behind the pistol.

It was a good day.

I need more time with it as well but 10mm is straight kick ass.

This is old but always makes me laugh:
