Curious what you guys think... So far, I have EDC'd a glock 29. I am a bigger framed guy and I love the 10mm, it has worked well for me in the fall/winter months. Now that summer is coming I am getting the itch for something lighter/smaller for everyday, reserving the glock for certain occasions.

I got on the list at my local gun shop for the sig 365, thinking that it would be the perfect edc replacement. I popped in yesterday to find out my number on the list (62) only to find out that I am really liking the small 1911 sized options. Mainly, the sig p938, or (a gun that really surprised me) the Kimber micro 9. I shoot 1911's better than a striker fired system, and they felt pretty good in my hand for such small guns.

Does anyone have experience with any of them? I'd like to hear some thoughts/opinions.

I CC the P938 with a crimson trace laser on it and absolutely love it. Being a large framed guy myself I also added the aftermarket Hogue grips and it’s a perfect 9mm carry. That said I have been thinking of gifting it to the misses and picking up a full-size M&P/Glock/Sig in 9mm for my all around carry.

In need of some advice.

MyLWRC M6IC has been flawless and for the most part the Trijicon Reflex 1x42 has been too. The issue is as I get older and my eyes get worse I’m having a really hard time acquiring targets when switching between close range and 50-80 yard range therefor thinking of upgrading the sight to something variable.

I’ve looked at the ACOG, VCOG, Aimpoint PRO w/ 6X Magnifier as well as several scopes that are variable (Bushnell, Trijicon, Leupold and the Vortex). I want something that will last a lifetime and has easy target acquisition between 5-100 yards.

Which direction would you go?

ACOG is fixed 3x, VCOG requires a small mortgage, and I despise the AimPoint because of looks, even though they are likely the best functioning civilian product in their class.

Really, I would have to ask what you want to use it for. Are you looking for quick, two-eyes open target acquisition or slow, steady precision shooting. Red dot and HWS' are not really good for precision shooting. Especially for people with an astigmatism and other vision issues.

Great questions and thank you for the help. Without trying to sound difficult I’m looking for something that can do it all. Two-eyes open, 3-Gun, precision shooting. It just depends on what I’m doing that day at the range.

My original thought was a red dot with a cantilever mounted magnifier. The Vortex Strike Eagle is also appealing.

That's a good choice in hardware. I doubt it'll fall into the category of lasting a lifetime, but you should get some pretty decent longevity out of it. The trick is getting good quality glass for the magnifier. Unfortunately there's not many options out there, regardless of the brands that you look at. I think as long as you stay mainstream as far as Brandon goes, you should do okay on the magnifier.

Not the ACOG. I think target acquisition will be a challenge for you based on your description of aging eyes. I would go PRO.

Nice gat, btw. Do you have the spiral barrel?

Add springfield EMP and DW CCO to your list. Avoid anything named Kimber.

Check out the strike eagle by vortex. I just mounted one on my M1A scout. Prior to that i had it on my battle arms development AR. It’s a true 1x so your good for 5 yards then it goes to 6x. I think I’m going to order the 1-8 for the scout and put the 1-6 on the FAL I’m waiting to show up i ordered.
