Today was a good day..............

Both of my rugged cans came in today, a 45 can and a 22 can.

Then my p365 showed up when I got home. Going out to my range tomorrow and put a few hundred round through her to see if I will replace my 43 as my EDC.

Thats the 12 round mag in the sig vs the 10 round mag in my 43.

Finished-
Yea, I know, posted it before, but now I'm really done futzing with it. It's like I want it now.

1992 Colt Government that was dad's. It's been a work in progress as I've posted along the way.
Frame cut and hand fitted Wilson beavertail, and Wilson thumb safety both by me.
Adjusted trigger to 4lbs from 6 lbs, also by me.
Installed one piece S&A mainspring housing and mag guide.
VZ "Colt" grips
Slide cut and sights installed by Novaks.

Been running it in matches the past three weeks. Put up one of my best scores yet two weeks ago.

Love it. When are you going drop a flat trigger in?

I am however, looking hard at full sized 1911's in 9MM if I can find one configured exactly like I want. Which is scarce and a little odd considering how simple my wish list is.

This one is my favorite. GCI No Name in 9mm, hard chrome with all the fixin's. Thing is a straight up laser, thats the test target at 25yrds behind it.

That's extremely close to how I want mine outfitted, except for a fiber front sight, and it is surprisingly hard to find without a rail, different sights, etc.

Here's who makes one like I want with no rail, upswept beavertail, fiber front sight, low mount Novak style rear (and not a Bomar style rear), which seems simple enough.

Colt Competition - had one, they have ejector issues, sold it.
RIA Ultra 9mm - really great reviews but I am just a tad on the snobbish side, and want one a little prettier to my eye, although it will get run hard at matches.
Fusion Firearms (the guy that sold Dan Wesson to CZ) has one called the Freedom Series "Reaction" for about $800 which seems to be a real steal. I'm shooting one next week.

Whats your budget?

Be super careful with Fusion. Bob Serva has a shitty rep and it is well deserved. I had him build me a 10mm govt but walked away when he called me 6 months into the build asking me asinine questions. Sicced my credit card company on him to get my deposit back. I would guess there is a reason it is going for 1/3 of what the original buyer paid for it...

edit: I suppose there is a big difference b/w having one built and getting one second hand.

This is good to know. The pistols are getting good press these days in the forums, but I did hear there were issues earlier on, but your anecdote does give me cause for pause. A friend of mine runs a range and is a dealer for Fusion now so I am going to check one out next week and spend some quality time putting rounds downrange.

As for budget, I was looking at Dan Wessons around $1500, but didn't see one like I wanted, and realized that no one else makes one like I want except the three mentioned above, and one of those is out, Colt, since I had one. I was hoping to stay around $1000 since I can get a Springer RO for that or less. I'd just have to settle for a rail, and/or Bomar style rear sight, which I don't want for this pistol.

It's interesting that if you look at production built 1911's and specifically their ejectors, they are all very different, and that is what I had trouble with, so it seems 1911's in 9mm are still more art than science.

Agreed on point of art vs. science on any 1911s not 45. Be sure to try a wide range of ammo and mags if you have any issues. I would would bide my time and wait for a Wesson Valor if in your shoes. Here is one at Buds at your price point sans FO front.

Ain't that pretty, too.

10 rd Wilson ETM mags were the ones bending the long ass ejector in the Colt. I may go with Tripp's mags if I find another 1911 in 9mm I like. I run the 10 rd mags to shoot ESP division in IDPA.

Unfortunately I work this weekend so I’ll have to wait to until next week to put my first rounds through her.

Ruger SR-762

(Ignore the $16 bipod, lol.)

I had a buddy that carried a 1911 built on a 10mm frame, reworked in 460 Roland. I think he was running 12gr of powder in his loads. It was a beast.

Yikes. I think I would wear a flack jacket when setting it off. Honestly I think even stout 10mm is too hot for 1911 let alone 460. I am running 26lb springs on my 10mm with Underwood loads and I get crazy kisses on my ejector port. I cannot shoot it indoors because it launches brass so hard that it ricochets around my stall and invariably goes down my shirt. I am pretty sure that gun is going to blow up on me at some point.

I only shot one magazine and it was a handful.

It was the same day I shot a buddies 1911 and it went full auto. Not fun. I was three rounds in to the burst before my brain calculated what was happening, the fourth shot was in the ceiling.

Apparently, he had the trigger lightened and the gun smith needs an education on 1911’s.
